Victor

If Victor didn’t have a wheelchair, he wouldn’t have a job. Victor lives with his family in Leon Mexico and suffers from Rickets because of the lack of calcium in their food and water. 45% of the people with disabilities in Mexico live in poverty and don’t think they can contribute to society. Victor is not one of them. He uses his wheelchair to go to work and provide for his family. He makes insoles for shoes and his wife sells them in a little shop his family runs next to their humble home. He is always smiling and happy to be alive. He says “making insoles makes me happy, even if I can’t use them.” Victor is a great example of taking what life gives you and making the best of it.

Ghana

Giving away 280 wheelchairs in Ghana Africa. Literally lifting people of dirt floors to improve their families’ lives for many years. Chair The Hope traveled many hours into tiny villages that still share one well for water and make tortilla chips on open fires to sell for a living, to finding those in need of a wheelchair that everyone had given up on. We also did projects in their community and helped out in an orphanage for a few days. A wheelchair is only $150 but will give independence, mobility, and HOPE to so many.

Tug

Tug is a 6-year-old boy who was born with multiple health conditions. Two of them are that he is in a wheelchair and mostly blind. Tug loves to play outside with his older brother but their backyard isn’t completed and too dangerous to let him push around on his own without being able to see. This didn’t allow his mother the opportunity to let the boys play without her being out there to protect him, limiting her independence as well as Tug’s.

Working with other local companies, Chair The Hope transformed their backyard into a safe environment with no bumps and a sidewalk around the house for better accessibility. They put in AstroTurf, built a playhouse for both the boys, added backyard fun activities, and patio furniture for the whole family to enjoy. Tug was so excited for the fun things to do and most importantly that he could get around all by himself. Tug is a true Hope Dealer.

What Would You Say?

What would you say to someone waiting for mobility? After the Ogden family road bicycles 1200 miles along the West Coast to raise money to give wheelchairs to others, they got to go on their first wheelchair distribution trip to Mexico and physically lift people up and put them in their first chair. This video summarizes the epic bike ride and their first wheelchair distribution trip to Mexico where their eyes were truly opened to the tremendous need for mobility throughout the world. Many there could not believe that someone in a wheelchair, like Nathan Ogden is, was helping bring wheelchairs to them. What a life changing event this was and the gratitude from the recipients and their families is inspiring, igniting HOPE within.

Quadriplegic Slingshot Fundraiser

Nathan Ogden was on vacation with his family in Daytona Beach FL when he decided to do something crazy as a quadriplegic to help others. He posted on social media that if he could raise $600 in the next 24 hrs for the nonprofit Chair The Hope, he would do the Sling Shot amusement ride. What is involved in the Sling Shot? Two people are strapped in and shot 365 feet straight up in the air, like a slingshot, at 100 mph experiencing 5Gs. Probably something not many quadriplegics do. Chair The Hope gives out wheelchairs throughout the world for only $150. That’s four families lives that will be completely changed in a one minute ride. You can see the fear and excitement in Nathan and his son Kyler’s faces as they are propelled into the Florida sky with a storm coming in that made their landing a little interesting. This is a must watch video!

Noah

Sena, our tour guide, asked his sister if she knew anyone who needed a wheelchair and she thought of Noah Mason down the street. Noah had been sick and went to the hospital for help. The story goes that the doctor gave him the wrong medicine that caused his legs to shrivel. He had been without the use of them ever since. His daughter had been taking care of him and he had been living in a small hut without the ability to get around except by using two wooden crutches. Chair the Hope assisted him today to change that! You can only imagine what life was like before 4pm today. Now he can get around and his daughters load can be lifted. He was so happy he couldn’t stop crying. Nate encouraged him to come out of his shell now and do good in his community. We encouraged the neighbors and children to treat Noah kindly because he is special. When we took this picture the group said, “1, 2, 3, WE -LOVE YOU NOAH!!”)
